Electronically Ambivalent Hydrodefluorination of Aryl‐CF <sub>3</sub> groups enabled by Electrochemical Deep‐Reduction on a Ni Cathode

The Ar-CF2H moiety is featured in an increasing number of bioactive compounds due to its unique combination properties. hydrodefluorination Ar-CF3 a direct and efficient route toward this motif. As reported methods for transformation have focused on specific substrate families, herein we describe general—electronically ambivalent—procedure the single-step mono-hydrodefluorination variety feedstock functionalized compounds. Exploiting inherent tunability electrochemistry selectivity enabled by Ni cathode, deep reduction garners high ArCF2H products, with good excellent yields up gram scale. protocol has been extended di-hydrodefluorination yielding benzyl fluorides. late-stage peripheral editing single CF3 construct fluoromethyl (CF2H, CFH2) moieties will aid rapid diversification lead-compounds compound libraries.
